Gather your hair to one side and braid it in a medium tight braid approximately 4′′ from the bottom, securing it with a hair tie. To loosen the braid and make it appear broader, slide the hair tie down an inch or so and use your fingers to “pancake” it by tugging the sections in opposite directions with your fingers (there are some photographs of this and a link to the plumping powder I like to use for braids in this post).
Cover the hair tie with a tiny to a medium scrunchie. You can leave pieces out in the front or pin them back into the hair as needed, depending on whether you have bangs or layers.
8. The Back Twist

Twist the two sections of your hair that fall directly above your ears towards each other (you can either do a tight twist or a more loose twist, but just try to twist them evenly).
